Setsoto Dairy Project

Setsoto Municipality Head Office, Ficksburg (Free State)
Overview
The basic project objective and strategy is to firstly overcome the impact of overgrazing and offer a lifeline for small farmers, cow owners and the broader community in the Setsoto Municipality and beyond by implementing a well researched and evidently successful integrated dairy farming, which includes dairy, piggery, crops and Biogas (electricity and carbon credits). The shareholding structure includes community (cow owners, farmers, organisations such as churches, orphanages), business and municipality.
Deemster Pilot Farm 1 474ha
The municipality has teamed up with the German company, ProTec which has vast knowledge (processing equipment), experience and network of associates and businesses across the industries in Europe. The dairy farming will be based on the feed and grazing methods, (Pasture and TMR, Total Mixed Ration).
When fully operational, the project will create more job (Direct and Indirect) and business opportunities for the local communities and business respectively. The activities at the pilot site will be replicated throughout the Setsoto Municipality, Thabo Mofutsanyane District and the province in the long term.
